Attendees enjoyed dinner and beverages at the Wasatch Brew Pub following the tour.

PTV AMERICA ANNOUNCES NEW NAVIGATION PRODUCT WITH MOTOROLA

PTV America announced in February that it is partnering with Motorola to launch a new mobile phone navigation accessory for both the North American and European consumer markets. Working with our developer partner Jentro, the worldwide consumer brand will launch new navigation products and location-based services in North America and Europe in the second quarter of 2007. Motorola’s description of the product can be viewed here:
http://www.motorola.com/mot/doc/6/6662_MotDoc.pdf.

With its new products and mobile devices Motorola will bring mobile navigation and location-based services (LBS) to the mass markets in North America and Europe. PTV and Jentro have developed several navigation systems in the past, including the number one navigation system for cell phones in Europe.

Unique value-added services for cell phone users

Customers in North America and Europe will benefit from a complete navigation solution for their mobile devices. Location-based services, such as local searches, allow consumers to find specific points of interest (i.e. hotels).

Further value-added services, such as social networking or emergency tracking, can easily be linked to the system.

Combining PTV and Jentro technologies

For years, PTV has been collaborating with Jentro to develop world-class online navigation solutions. Together, they developed and launched the first navigation system for mass market mobile phones.

Based on PTV NaviGuide, the technology provides server-based navigation and map display for Motorola's phone-based navigation. These features and other location-based services are integrated into Jentro's Location Based Experience Platform. PTV edits and processes NAVTEQ-supplied map and POI data for both Europe and North America. PTV also provides up-to-date traffic reports from different traffic information providers covering the U.S. and many European countries. This comprehensive and dynamic route calculation helps motorists to avoid traffic jams.

PTV SOFTWARE CAPTURES HISTORIC WIN AT 2007 NAVTEQ LBS CHALLENGE

PTV America congratulates our partner Jentro, for winning multiple awards in the PTV's NaviGuide software, activepilot offers local search, car and pedestrian navigation with traffic avoidance & spoken street names. Jentro won the Grand Prize for the European LBS Challenge just this past February.

PTV NaviGuide is an online navigation solution which allows automobile manufacturers, wireless carriers and providers of telematic services to offer their customers a new form of dynamic navigation. The system gives users the opportunity to be guided by requesting optimal routes from a service centre using wirelessly connected end devices like cell phones.

PTV MobilityPlatform SELECTED AS PART OF SEPTA TRIP PLANNER

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) successfully launched their new Itinerary Trip Planning System on their web site http://airs.septa.org on 28. February 2007. SEPTA, who is responsible for public transit in the Greater Philadelphia region, relies on HaCon and PTV and their respective technologies. With the new Internet based Trip Planner on the SEPTA web site, now comprehensive information about schedules, fares as well as detailed walking instructions and interactive maps can be accessed. The implemented software solution is unique in the USA, giving SEPTA a strong leadership role for their services.

At the customer portal, a user can enter origin and destination through multiple interfaces:

  • a fault-tolerant address search
  • a mouse click in an interactive online map or
  • an interactive transit network map.

In addition, the system supports the usage of street numbers, cross streets, ZIP codes and township names. Landmarks or special locations like hotels or tourist attractions can also be easily accessed and visited, always supported by walking instructions, public transit itineraries and maps dynamically created by the new system.

The display of routes, maps and sidewalks is supplied by means of the PTV xServer software. Sidewalks are shown within the street network and complemented by extensive walking instruction texts.

A new version of the Itinerary Trip Planner was also introduced to the SEPTA call center agents. In addition to the publicly available functions, this also web browser based application provides special support for the requirements of call center operations.

During the three-hour competition, students worked with VISSIM to solve an emergency vehicle evacuation problem through the manipulation of signal timing, destination assignment and traffic loading schemes on a real-world evacuation network. The team from the University of Central Florida won the competition. PTV America provided a copy of VISSIM to each team during the preparation period and during the competition.
